El jurado internacional de la 54 edición anual de World Press Photo Contest ha seleccionado una imagen de Jodi Bieber, de Sudáfrica como la ganadora del World Press Photo del Año 2010. El retrato de Bibi Aisha también recibió primer premio en la categoría de Retratos individuales en el concurso de este año. Esta foto fue portada de la revista TIME el 9 de agosto pasado.
La imagen ganadora muestra a Aisha Bibi, una mujer de 18 años, de la provincia de Oruzgan, en Afganistán, que escapó de vuelta a su casa familiar, huyendo de la violencia de casa de su marido. Los talibanes llegaron una noche, exigiendo que Bibi se entregara a la justicia. Después un comandante talibán pronunció su veredicto, el hermano de su marido la sujetaba y su esposo le cortó las orejas y la nariz. Bibi fue abandonada, pero más tarde fue rescatada por trabajadores humanitarios y militares estadounidenses. Después de un tiempo en un refugio para mujeres en Kabul, fue llevada a Estados Unidos, donde recibió tratamiento de cirugía reconstructiva. Actualmente Aisha Bibi vive en los EE.UU.
